❓ Quick questions when you arrive at LAX

🧳 What should I do as soon as I get off the plane?

Before leaving the cabin, check that you have your passport, mobile phone, wallet and valuables with you; many passengers forget devices or documents in the seat pocket.

Strategy: Do a quick “sweep” of your row (seat, tray table, overhead bin) before moving toward the exit, and avoid getting distracted by the rush of other passengers.

🛄 When do I need to collect checked baggage?

If LAX is your final destination, you must always collect your baggage at the arrivals carousels; if you are in international–international transit, your suitcase is usually tagged through to your final destination unless your airline tells you otherwise.

Strategy: Confirm on your baggage tag and with the crew whether your suitcase is checked through to your last destination or if you need to collect it at LAX and check it in again.

🚕 Where is the best place to get transport when I exit?

Once you reach the public area, you will find multiple options: relatives picking you up, taxis, ride‑share apps, buses and hotel or car‑rental shuttles, each with its own designated area.

Strategy: Before flying, decide how you will leave the airport (taxi, app, FlyAway, private transfer, etc.) so you can go straight to the correct meeting point without wasting time or ending up in unauthorized services.

💡 Quick tip after landing

After you clear immigration and collect your baggage, it is easy to get lost among signs and transport offers in the public arrivals area.

Strategy: Choose a clear reference point (a sign, door or numbered column) as a meeting place with your transport or companions and avoid moving away from it while you coordinate by phone or messaging.

Recommendations after arriving at Los Angeles Airport (LAX)

  1. 🎒 Hand luggage

Make sure you do not leave your belongings on board the aircraft. Many passengers recommend doing a quick check before disembarking to avoid losing personal items, especially electronic devices or important documents.

  2. ✈️ Connecting flights

If you are waiting for a connecting flight, keep the following in mind:

    - For domestic flights, you must collect your checked baggage and go through immigration if you are arriving from another country.

    - If your final destination is outside the United States, you generally do not need to collect your checked baggage. Travelers note that some cafés and services are available 24 hours a day, which is useful for long layovers or flights at awkward hours. Check how to move between terminals.

  3. 🛄 Checked baggage

If LAX is your final destination, go to the baggage claim area and find the carousel assigned to your flight. Bear in mind that several flights may share the same carousel. If your baggage does not arrive, ask for assistance at your airline’s counter or from airport staff.

  4. 🛂 Immigration

Follow the signs to the immigration control area.

    - If you are a foreign national, be prepared to present your passport, visa (if applicable), accommodation address and any reservations you may have.

    - Some passengers point out that queues can be long, but the process is usually efficient if you have all your documents in order. Answer only what you are asked to help speed up the experience.

  5. 🚗 Picking up passengers

Passengers can be picked up on the lower level in the arrivals area, just outside baggage claim.

    - Use the LAX Cell Phone Waiting Lot, a free area where drivers can wait until they receive a call from passengers letting them know they are ready to be picked up.

    - If you are picking someone up at Terminal B (Tom Bradley International), use the pick‑up area on the lower level of Parking Structure 3, which is also free.

  6. 🚖 Public arrivals area

When you reach the public area, if you have booked a private driver, they will usually be holding a sign with your name. Avoid getting into unauthorized taxis offered by strangers. Recommended transport options include:

    - Door‑to‑door shuttles
    - Scheduled shuttles
    - FlyAway bus
    - Public transportation
    - Taxis, Opoli, Uber and Lyft
    - Car rental

  7. ❓ Frequently asked questions

If you have additional questions, check the FAQs section, where you will find useful information shared by other travelers.

⚠️ Arriving at LAX: pros and cons according to passengers

🗣️ User experience:

Pros: Many passengers appreciate that, when lines move well, the immigration and baggage claim process feels organized and professional, with staff helping to direct people and several transport options available outside (FlyAway, apps, taxis and shuttles).

Cons: Reviews also mention long queues at peak times, long walks to the baggage area, confusing signage to find transport and an arrivals hall that can feel chaotic for travelers who are tired after a long flight.
