Parking at LAX Airport

Parking at LAX Airport

LAX offers around 7,000 parking spaces across eight structures, with 24/7 options for both short-term and long-term stays directly across from the passenger terminal roadways. Choosing between CTA, Premium, Valet, Economy, LAX Budget Parking, Van Nuys (FlyAway) or off-site private lots depends on your budget, trip length and how much time you have for transfers.

❓ Frequently asked questions about parking at LAX

🚗 Which parking option is best depending on my trip length?

For short stays or if you want to be as close as possible to the terminals, the Central Terminal Area (CTA), Premium Parking or Valet Parking are the most convenient options. For multi‑day trips, Economy Parking, LAX Budget Parking or parking at Van Nuys (FlyAway) are usually more economical alternatives.

⏱️ How much extra time should I allow if I use Economy Parking or LAX Budget Parking?

Economy Parking is about 15 minutes from the terminals and LAX Budget Parking uses shuttles that can take between 20 and 25 minutes. It is recommended to add at least 30 extra minutes to the standard time suggested by your airline.

📞 Where can I wait in my car if I am picking up a passenger?

If you are picking someone up, you can use the Cell Phone Waiting Lots, where you can wait for free for up to 2 hours. Once the passenger has collected their luggage and is ready, they can call you and only then should you drive to the arrivals area to pick them up.

🔌 What should I consider if I am driving an electric vehicle?

LAX offers numerous charging points in the central area (CTA) garages, as well as in Premium Parking and Economy Parking. It is a good idea to check availability in advance using apps such as PlugShare or ChargePoint and to allow extra time during peak hours.

⚠️ Smart traveler’s guide: parking at LAX

🗣️ User experience: Many passengers report that getting from Economy or LAX Budget Parking to the terminals can take longer than expected due to shuttle wait times, especially during peak hours or late at night.

Strategy: If you are using more distant parking options, add at least 30–40 extra minutes for shuttle waits and transfers and avoid very tight connections, particularly for international flights or peak‑time departures.

🗣️ User experience: Curbside drop‑off and pick‑up areas can become congested, with vehicles stopping longer than allowed and blocking lanes intended for through traffic.

Strategy: Coordinate the exact pick‑up time by phone or messaging and, whenever possible, use the Cell Phone Waiting Lots to wait without adding to congestion at the main terminal curbs.

💡 Quick tip for choosing parking at LAX

If you prioritize price and plan to leave your car for several days, compare Economy Parking, LAX Budget Parking and Van Nuys (FlyAway) first. If you prioritize convenience or are short on time, Valet, Premium or CTA can justify the extra cost by reducing transfers and waiting times.

Parking areas, services, rates and user experience

With 7,000 spaces available in eight parking structures, LAX offers a wide range of options, available 24 hours a day for both long-term and short-term parking. They are located directly across from the passenger terminal roadways.

Passenger drop-off and pick-up

Dropping off passengers: For everyone’s safety, the airport is currently closed to the general public except for ticketed passengers, persons accompanying or assisting those passengers, and airport staff. Passengers can be dropped off at the terminals on the upper/departures level.

Picking up passengers: Passengers can be picked up at the outer curb on the lower/arrivals level, outside the baggage claim area.

What passengers say: Users mention that pick‑up and drop‑off areas at LAX can be challenging during peak hours due to heavy traffic. Some highlight a lack of organization in certain sections, where stopped vehicles block lanes meant for through traffic. To avoid chaos, it is recommended to coordinate with drivers at less busy times or use the LAX‑it service for quick connections with ride‑app services such as Uber and Lyft.

Cell Phone Waiting Lot

If you are picking up a passenger, use one of the two free lots (Cell Phone Waiting Lots), where drivers can wait for up to 2 hours until passengers call to say they are ready to be picked up in the central terminal area. The original lot is located at the northwest corner of 96th Street and Vicksburg Avenue and is open 24 hours a day. The secondary lot is at the northwest corner of 96th Street and Alverstone Avenue and is open from 6:00 am to 2:00 am. Vehicles must be attended at all times while parked.

What passengers say: The Cell Phone Lot is praised as a convenient and free option for those waiting for arriving passengers. Positive comments include the ease of parking and avoiding congestion in the central area. However, some users mention that signage to locate this lot could be improved. This space allows temporary parking until travelers are ready to be picked up at the main areas.
